This blog is intended to cover the progress of a research project concerning the modeling of gridshell structures under dynamic loading conditions, such as wind and earthquake loads. This modeling will be crucial in determining the applicability of gridshell structures for use in areas where existing structures have been destroyed by natural disasters.
The posts in the Spring are preparation for the internship and research; mainly the background concepts of FEM/FEA and the use of Solidworks for hanging chain models.
The posts in the Summer will cover the progress of the internship at Naval Postgraduate School, which will hopefully give the author the skills needed to carry out the research back at the Naval Academy in the coming year.
The posts in the 16-17 Academic Year will focus on the progress of the research, and possibly even capstone project progress (also related to gridshells).
